Playing Catch up..still in Kelowna

With all my free time the last 3 weeks I’ve had time to catch up with family, Tyler’s family, close friends, family friends and some high school friends I haven’t seen in ages! It’s been so nice catching up with everyone.

My brother’s been out of town working and our schedules have been clashing. Fortunately he’s been home a few times and we’ve enjoyed some home cooked meals with my Mom!

I’ve had a couple dates with Jessy, my best childhood friend growing up. She's getting married and I love hearing all about the planning details.

I was even in town for Ev’s birthday (my bestfriend's Mom). We enjoyed a bottle or two of Quails Gate wine and had a fun evening with lots of food.

Last night I got together with some old highschool friends; it’s always fun to see what everyone’s been up to.

This is our last week in town a few more family dinners, and last minute plans. Then it’s off to Calgary for the Summer! As much as I love spending time with my Mom and eating her home cooked meals, I’m looking forward to getting back into a routine.

Back in Kelowna

It’s been quite the week, between fighting jet lag and trying to fit in visits to see everyone here and there.

It’s so nice to be at home, my Mom has spoiled me rotten! The fridge was stocked with all of my favourite foods, she recorded some chick flicks and had my bedroom all ready for my arrival. She showed up at the airport with pretty pink flowers and welcome home balloons, world’s best Mom!

We didn’t expect to be home this early, but one unexpected loss led us back to Canada. We will spend the month in Kelowna and venture out to Calgary at the end of March.

For as long as I can remember every Spring Break my Mom’s side of the family spends the week up at Silver Star (the local ski hill). The timing couldn’t have worked out any better; I was able to visit with my Grandma, aunt & uncle, cousin Meagan, and cousin Kristin along with her beautiful little boys and husband Rod. We had a delicious turkey dinner and shared lots of laughs. I’m so glad I could be apart of another Spring Break tradition.

Today Ty & I hiked to the top of Knox Mountain. I definitely haven’t missed the gloomy grey winter months in the Okanagan!

I hope everyone’s having a good start to March.

Another Season Comes to an End

A quick update to let everyone know what were up to: the Vikings lost out of playoffs last Saturday, we are spending the day in Copenhagen on Friday and flying back to Kelowna on Saturday morning. Everything is happening so quickly and mostly out of our control.

The packing is well under way, in the last year we have moved in and out of 3 apartments in 3 different countries. By now you would think I’d be a packing expert, but to be completely honest I’m absolutely terrible! I have little piles laying everywhere around the suitcases, and clothes in every corner. We will know tomorrow if were coming back in the Fall, if we are.. many of my little piles will go into boxesJ Making for a much lighter load home!

I’m looking forward to spending Friday in Copenhagen with my love, a fun way to end our adventures for this season.

I always dread the flight home; fortunately our trip duration is only 15 hours long. We have a 3 hour lay over in Calgary and I’m so extremely excited to get off the plane and see my dear friend Jenna. She was the last person I saw before I left for Sweden, and she’ll be the first one I see when I arrive on Canadian soil! Can’t wait to see her beautiful smiling face.

I hope everyone’s having a fun week, next time I blog I will be home with jet lag!

Sweden Celebrates a New Princess

Yesterday Princess Victoria of Sweden gave birth to Princess Estelle. The royal birth is overwhelming for Sweden, as this is Victoria & Daniel’s first bundle of joy.

Swedes are celebrating the birth of the new baby princess with no other than the Swedish Princess cake. The Princess cake is a traditional Swedish cake, consisting of cream sponge layers, whipped cream, vanilla custard, and topped with a delicious layer of marzipan. Bakeries all over Sweden are selling out of the popular cake; some are bringing in extra staff to help with the overwhelming orders.

Did you know: In Sweden, the state pays parents $157 CND per child, per month until the child turns 16?

Stuff

We have accumulated A LOT of stuff over the years, especially with the adventures we’ve been on.

We have stuff at both our parent’s houses in Kelowna, we have a basement full of stuff at Tyler’s grandparents house in Calgary (we are so thankful they have stored everything for us). We have more stuff at Auntie Debbie’s in Calgary, and of course we have all our “current” stuff here in Sweden. When the season ends we will mostly likely leave a box or two in Sweden, leaving us with boxes of stuff all over the world! It really does drive me crazy that I have boxes everywhere.

I can definitely relate to this hilarious YouTube video, check it out!

Swedish Cavapoo

Marcus & Pernilla have a new addition to their family, a handsome black Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles & Poodle) named Mason. We spent the evening at their house eating home made pizza and playing with the little fur baby.

I’ve wanted a puppy for a long time now, unfortunately my lovely boyfriend never grew up with a dog like I did, he’s not a dog lover like myself. He keeps telling me that when were settled we will get one, truthfully I don’t think I can wait that long! I understand with this lifestyle it makes it more difficult to have a furry friend, but definitely not impossible.

Being away from family & friends for 8 months of the year is really tough and I think a furry friend would make it all a little easier. Boyfriend, if your reading this I guess I will continue to send you pictures, and puppy ads..daily until you cave!

Sparkstötting

Kick sleds also known as Sparkstötting are common in Sweden, they can be used for casual recreation, ice fishing, racing or just some good old family fun. Kicksled racing was a major event in the Nordic Games back in 1890.

I saw my first Sparkstötting yesterday; two Swedish kids were going for a snow ride into town. What fun!

A classic Scandinavian kick sled retails around $250.00 Cnd
